About you
As our Senior Local Medical Educator, you will have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. Currently you’ll be working as a GP in a General Practice environment and have extensive experience in medical education. To thrive in this role, you’ll have:
- advanced medical education competencies in general practice training
- excellent organisational skills, time management, analytical ability, and adaptability
- high level of initiative, conceptual and analytical thinking
- an ability to use Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel
- experience or an interest in people management and leadership
We are seeking a Senior Local Medical Educator in each North West Queensland subregion:
- Far North Queensland (including towns such as Atherton, Cairns, Innisfail, Mareeba, Torres Strait, Weipa)
- North Queensland (including towns such as Ayr, Charters Towers, Ingham, Mt Isa, Palm Island Townsville)
- Central Queensland (including towns such as Bowen, Emerald, Longreach, Mackay, Rockhampton, Theodore, Yeppoon
- South Queensland (including locations such as Bundaberg, Cunnamulla – Thargomindah, Harvey Bay, Mitchell, Quilpie, St George - Dirranbandi)
About the opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Local Medical Educator – Head of Training, you’ll work collaboratively with the GP Training Program Management team to achieve the best outcomes for registrars and supervisors ensuring the delivery of a high-quality nationally consistent GP training program. You will support a local team to deliver the RACGP GP training program. In addition, you’ll:
- oversee registrar training progress management.
- provide medical education leadership and specialised training support to the local team.
- oversee hospital term education support as well as supervisor and registrar workshops.
- provide one on one support to registrars who have significant progress issues including failing an RACGP exam.
- train supervisors and medical educators to deliver workplace-bases assessments including clinical teaching visits.
- lead workforce planning and recruitment in the local team.
- oversee accreditation of practices by the local team and support training pipelines.

This role involves transferring work associated with the transitioning of Australian General Practice Training delivery from James Cook University (JCU) to RACGP. Successful candidates will be employed under the JCU Enterprise Agreement 2022, including salary terms. RACGP plans to request Fair Work Commission approval to ‘switch off' the JCU Enterprise Agreement for RACGP employees. If approved, employment terms will align with RACGP standard terms for this role. Prospective employees will be asked if they support this change during the offer stage and more information will be provided at that time.
