Find out more about us and our purpose.Your OpportunityThe Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) provides a safe and supported short-stay residential environment to help young people aged 12-21 years to manage their withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs and/or take time out from environmental influences and pressures.Based at DAYS Carlisle , your role as a residential youth worker is to engage young people and work alongside them as they complete the rehabilitation program. The opportunity enables the youth workers to support and teach young people to practice new skills and implement life changing strategies toward achieving their goals.The role will support a 7 day, 24 hour rotating roster with a combination of day and night shifts and you will require flexibility to work across the two DAYS sites.Your Key Responsibilities Induct young people to the service advising their rights and responsibilitiesDevelop relationships with young people adhering to boundaries of care practiceSupport young people to understand their behaviour and learn beneficial coping strategies with the aim to improve life outcomes and progress towards achieving their goalsCollaborate with young people and their support team about care and management and response to pain-based behavioursInformal CounsellingAssist with meal preparation and prorationMonitor client's personal care and hygiene and provide guidance to improve life skillsSupport young people to self-administer medicationsFacilitate educational groups and recreational activities Requirements for SuccessWith a significant background in the child, youth & family, and AOD sectors you will be confident in your trauma informed practices supporting young people and assessment processes. Other requirements include: A degree in Social Welfare or a minimum of certificate 4 in community services with at least three years' experience in a similar roleDemonstrated experience providing support and crisis interventionStrong knowledge of behaviour management and capacity to set boundaries and limits in a residential settingYou must be available for 12-hour shifts covering a 7 day roster (combination of night and day shifts)The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to provide positive outcomesDemonstrated professional approach to maintaining professional boundariesMust have Full driver licence with no restrictionsEvidence of up to date Covid 19 vaccination Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.Our CultureOur innovative and inclusive culture will ensure you feel valued at Mission Australia as you help Australians in need and develop in your career.We're committed to the safety and wellbeing of each other and the people we serve.We recognise and respect diversity.
