The Opportunity

The 'Group Manager Customer, Community Services' is responsible for leading over 215 FTE staff, plus over 120 casual employees across Recreation, Community Services & Facilities (including multiple Childcare centres and Aged care programs), Civic Communications, Events & Operations, Libraries & Customer Services. The position is also responsible for the operations of our award-winning Waves Fitness & Aquatic Centre.

Key Accountabilities
Value our customers by engaging with and informing our community, whilst also advocating on their behalf. Deliver on various projects and programs within budget. The total budget being managed exceeds $50M. Define and implement customer service strategies and influence others to contribute to implementation. Ensure public spaces are attractive, safe, and well maintained providing a variety of recreational and leisure activities to support active lifestyles. Provide a connected and supported community with access to a range of services and facilities that contribute to health and wellbeing. Drive best practice procurement activities to ensure value for money and ensure resources are used effectively and efficiently. Direct safe work practices and ensure that Council fulfils its health and safety obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. Improve planning processes and reporting to enhance business performance and accountability. Ensure sustainable financial management of council assets. Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Provide expert advice to both the executive team, Mayor and Councillors. This includes attending and presenting at regular Council meetings and workshops.

You are looking to form an enduring relationship with The Hills Shire Council. With excellent communication and advocacy skills, you can build effective partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be commercially savvy, with proven experience managing complex business units and budgets. Ideally, you are aware of the broader social, political, and economic issues that affect local, state and federal government sectors.
