Chief Engineer – Lizard Island Resort
Delaware North’s Lizard Island Resort are currently seeking experienced and enthusiastic applicants for the role of a Chief Engineer working and living on-site at Lizard Island. This position is a hands-on-role, reporting directly to the General Manager. As Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for managing resort maintenance across all areas of Lizard Island Resort. This includes management of employees and subcontractors.
About The Role
Working as a Chief Engineer leading the Maintenance team you will be involved in;
- Co-ordinate activities of workers in maintenance and gardening.
- Develop preventative maintenance programs in conjunction with department heads.
- Review departmental reports to plan and modify maintenance activities.
- Ensure all operating machines and equipment conforms to Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Plan, develop, implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimise operating costs and effect greater utilisation of labour and materials.
- Review new product plans and discuss equipment needs and modifications.
- Requisition tools, equipment and supplies required for operations.
- Direct training of workers to improve performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.
- Confer with management to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
- Co-ordinate with General Manager and department heads.
- External relationships – negotiate, select, monitor and advise outside contractors involved in maintenance, gardening and cleaning.
- Provide guidance, counsel and instruction for management in property service issues.
- Ensure that all regulatory laws are adhered to and applied consistently.
- Develop and implement maintenance reporting systems.
- Develop and recommend policies and practices designed to increase the effectiveness of departmental operations.
- Read and evaluate reports, correspondence and employee needs and have the ability to perceive problems as they relate to employees and management.
- Possess strong interpersonal and negotiating skills to effectively handle all issues which may be of a controversial or sensitive nature.
- Be able to communicate effectively with employees and guests.
- Demonstrate professional conduct and work performance.
- Coordination of major projects in relation to interfaces with current property, maintenance and cleaning systems.
- Ensure that all operational staff and management focus upon guest recognition and quality of service delivery by developing feedback loops to ensure a continual improvement programme is established.
- Maximise guest satisfaction by ensuring efficient management of all guest issues or disputes.
- Provide a safe environment and experience for guests.
- Accountable for ensuring all staff are provided with the training required to enable them to deliver the outputs required of their position.
- Participate in Performance Management processes.
- Contribute to the building of a high performance team by being an exemplar of agreed behaviours.
- Identify and implement initiatives aimed at effective cost controls while providing maximum value to the company and guests.
- Assist with setting budgets and forecasting, controlling capital expenditure within approved limits.
- Ensure any initiatives are implemented on time, to budget and to requirements, working in conjunction with the appropriate staff.
What You Will Bring To The Role
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business OR Trade certificate with demonstrated leadership/supervision or business management experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in related field
- A proven background in effectively working with key internal and external stakeholders across the business and industry sector
- Any additional licenses to perform inherent requirements of the role and location
- Site security clearance where applicable
